Investors looking at technology stocks for 2026 are often torn between two very different names: Aehr Test Systems and C3.ai. Both carry heavy valuations and both are burning through cash, but that is where the similarities end. The real question is which one offers a clearer path to sustainable profits without the constant threat of dilution or a sudden growth stall.
Aehr Test Systems operates in the semiconductor equipment niche, specifically making test systems for silicon carbide and other power devices. Its revenue is tied to capital spending cycles from chipmakers, which can be lumpy. The company has posted strong quarters recently, driven by electric vehicle demand, but that same cyclicality is its biggest risk. If EV orders slow, the stock could correct sharply. Still, Aehr has a history of generating positive cash flow in good years, and its margins are high when volume picks up.
C3.ai, on the other hand, sells enterprise AI software on a subscription basis. The market is huge, but the company spends heavily on sales and marketing to chase growth. It has yet to post a meaningful profit, and its reliance on a few large customers adds volatility. The recent pivot to generative AI has boosted hype, but the actual revenue contribution from those products remains small. Cash burn is persistent, and the company regularly raises capital through share offerings, which dilutes existing holders.
For a patient investor, Aehr offers a more concrete path to profitability, albeit with cyclical swings. C3.ai offers a bigger addressable market but a much longer wait for earnings. If you prefer tangible revenue tied to real hardware, Aehr is the safer pick. If you are willing to bet on AI software adoption accelerating dramatically, C3.ai could win big, but the risk of disappointment is far higher. In 2026, Aehr looks like the better buy for most portfolios, especially with its lower valuation relative to growth.
