Penn State Harrisburg has named Shirley Clark as the new director of its School of Science, Engineering, and Technology, with her tenure set to begin on May 1. Clark steps into the role after a national search, bringing a background in environmental engineering and a history of leadership within the university system.
Clark has been a faculty member at Penn State Harrisburg since 2001, most recently serving as a professor of environmental engineering. She also held the position of interim associate dean for research and graduate studies at the campus. Her research focuses on stormwater management and the control of pollutants in urban runoff, work that has drawn funding from federal and state agencies.
In her new role, Clark will oversee academic programs, faculty research, and strategic planning for the school, which offers degrees in fields ranging from computer science to mechanical engineering. The school has seen growth in enrollment and research activity in recent years, and Clark is expected to build on that momentum.
Clark replaces the previous director, who stepped down after several years in the position. University officials praised her experience and familiarity with the campus, noting that her long tenure gives her a deep understanding of both the institution and the region's workforce needs.
