A robotics company executive is proposing a futuristic solution for border security, suggesting that humanoid machines could soon handle surveillance in the most difficult stretches of the southern frontier. Sankaet Pathak, the founder and CEO of the robotics firm Foundation, said these machines could perform autonomous reconnaissance in rugged areas where human agents face serious risks.

Pathak described a scenario where humanoid units would move through desert canyons, rocky trails, and dense brush, using sensors and cameras to detect illegal crossings or suspicious activity. The pitch comes as several tech companies race to make humanoid robots more agile, durable, and capable of operating without constant human control. Unlike drones, which fly overhead, these ground-based machines could navigate uneven terrain, open gates, climb over barriers, and even interact with people if needed.

The idea is still in the proposal stage, and no contract has been signed. But the conversation reflects a broader push within federal agencies to test emerging automation tools. Border Patrol has already used drones, ground sensors, and AI-powered cameras, but humanoid robots remain largely experimental. Critics question their battery life, maintenance costs, and whether they could handle extreme heat or sudden weather shifts. Supporters argue that robots could reduce the need for agents to chase suspects through dangerous areas, lowering the chance of injury or deadly confrontations.

Pathak did not provide a timeline or cost estimate, but he said the technology is moving faster than most people realize. He added that the southern border is just one possible use, with future applications in disaster response and industrial security. For now, the proposal adds another layer to the ongoing debate over how far automation should go in law enforcement and national defense.
