French quantum computing startup Quobly has raised $150 million in a funding round aimed at accelerating the development of its silicon spin qubit processors. The company, which emerged from research at France's national research labs, is betting on a manufacturing approach that leverages existing semiconductor fabrication techniques.
Unlike many quantum computing rivals that rely on exotic materials or superconducting circuits, Quobly's technology uses electron spins in standard silicon transistors. This design allows the company to produce qubits using conventional chip factories, potentially lowering costs and speeding up the path to large-scale quantum systems. The funding will support the expansion of its engineering team and the construction of a new fabrication line dedicated to its quantum processors.
The investment reflects growing confidence in spin qubit technology as a viable path toward practical quantum computers. While still in early stages, Quobly claims its approach could eventually enable millions of qubits on a single chip. The company plans to demonstrate a fully functional quantum processor within the next few years, targeting applications in drug discovery, materials science, and cryptography.
