Top Veterans Affairs official says "latest technology" in health care records coming to Danville

July 17, 2026 - 11:03

Top Veterans Affairs official says

Deputy Secretary of Veterans Affairs Paul R. Lawrence announced that Danville will be the next site to receive the department's new Federal Electronic Health Record system, with a planned rollout in March of next year. Lawrence described the upgrade as bringing "the latest technology" to the region, aiming to streamline how patient data is shared between the VA, the Department of Defense, and community providers.

The new system replaces a patchwork of older software that often required manual data entry and caused delays in treatment. By integrating records into a single, modern platform, officials hope to reduce errors and speed up access to care for veterans. Lawrence emphasized that the shift is not just about new computers, but about changing how clinicians interact with patient histories, allowing them to spend more time with veterans and less time on paperwork.

Danville was selected as a priority site due to its large veteran population and the existing infrastructure at the local VA medical center. Staff have already begun training on the new software, and the agency is working to ensure a smooth transition. Lawrence noted that while the March date is a target, the VA is committed to getting the system right before going live, learning from earlier deployments at other facilities. The goal, he said, is to give every veteran in Danville a seamless, modern health care experience.
