Samsung has announced a new material innovation aimed at improving the durability of its foldable devices. Called Flex Titanium, the technology combines a titanium-alloy film with a titanium plate to reinforce the display structure. The company states that this approach not only makes the screen more resistant to impact and pressure but also significantly reduces the visibility of the crease that has long been a concern for foldable phone users.
The titanium components are designed to be both lightweight and strong, addressing two common complaints about foldable phones: fragility and the persistent line down the middle of the screen. By integrating these materials directly into the display stack, Samsung hopes to offer a more premium feel and longer-lasting device. The company has not yet confirmed which future model will first feature Flex Titanium, but industry speculation points to the next generation of its Galaxy Z Fold series.
This move comes as competition in the foldable market heats up, with rivals introducing their own hinge and screen technologies. Samsung's focus on material science suggests the company is betting on hardware improvements rather than software tricks to win over consumers who have been hesitant to switch from traditional slab phones. The announcement did not include a specific release date or pricing details.
