VB Spine completes buy of CT-to-fluoroscopy technology from Augmedics

VB Spine has closed the deal to acquire the exclusive rights to Augmedics' CT-to-fluoroscopy technology, a move that expands the company's intraoperative imaging toolkit for spinal procedures. The transaction, which was first announced earlier this year, gives VB Spine full ownership of the software and hardware integration that allows surgeons to merge preoperative CT scans with live fluoroscopic images during surgery.

The technology is designed to improve accuracy when placing pedicle screws and navigating complex spinal anatomy. Instead of relying solely on traditional 2D X-ray images, the system overlays 3D CT data onto real-time fluoroscopy, giving surgeons a clearer view of the surgical field without the need for a full intraoperative CT scanner. That can reduce procedure time and lower radiation exposure for both the patient and the surgical team.

VB Spine's chief executive said the acquisition aligns with the company's focus on making advanced navigation more accessible to hospitals that do not have dedicated robotic or navigation suites. The technology will be integrated into VB Spine's existing product line and offered as an upgrade for current customers.

Augmedics, known for its augmented reality headset for spine surgery, will continue to focus on its core visual guidance platform. The CT-Fluoro technology was developed as a separate module, and the sale allows Augmedics to streamline its own portfolio while VB Spine takes over development and distribution for spine-specific uses.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. VB Spine said it expects to begin shipping the technology to select centers later this year, with a broader rollout planned for 2026. The company also confirmed that existing Augmedics customers with active licenses for the CT-Fluoro module will see their support transition to VB Spine over the coming months.
